SECOND COLLECTIONS
Our parish is required by the Diocese of Charlotte to take the following second collections each year.
Seminary and Priests’ Continuing Education
The Seminary and Priests’ Continuing Education Collection, taken on Easter Sunday each year, helps provide the funds to educate our diocesan seminarians and provide ongoing workshops on theology an pastoral issues for our priests.
Combined Mission Collection
Missionary works of the Catholic Church throughout our own country and the rest of the world are supported by our donation to the:
♦ Propagation of the Faith ♦ Collection for the Church in Latin America ♦ Collection to Aid the Church in Central and Eastern Europe ♦ Catholic Home Missions Appeal ♦ United States Mission Collection
Priests’ Retirement and Benefits
This collection is a way to show your gratitude for the faithful service of our retired diocesan priests and helps to insure funds will be available when every priest becomes eligible for retirement benefits. This collection also helps support the retirement funds of the priests and brothers representing 11 different religious orders serving in our diocese.
International/National Combined Collection
The five national and international organizations that will benefit from this collection are:
√ Catholic Relief Services √ Collection for the Holy Land √ Collection for the Works of the Holy Father (Peter’s Pence) √ Catholic University of America √ Catholic Communications Campaign
CCHD funds community-based programs created and managed by low-income people. These programs consist of anything from campaigning for policy changes in labor or housing, to reforming education curricula, to tackling other issues at the root of poverty in America. CCHD also provides educational opportunities for Catholics to learn about poverty, interact with those affected by it, and reflect on our faith response to it.
Religious Retirement
The Collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, taken on the second weekend in December, provides parishioners with an opportunity to “Share in the Care” of our retired religious sisters and brothers. The USCCB National Religious Retirement Office helps those religious orders provide for the retirement needs of their elderly members.
We also take the following second collections for the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.
Your support of Oblate Ministry helps you and others to “Live Today Well”. Oblate ministries include financial help for seminarians, providing medical attention for the aged and infirmed Oblates and funding programs which bring the practical spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales to you, the parishioners.
Oblate Mission Appeal
This collection assists the works of the Oblates in mission countries around the world. The Oblates operate clinics, provide food and education, install water wells, offer emergency relief and operate seminaries among other good works.
